Attend the 2026 Harold C. Schott Lecture with Professor Jacob Katz Cogan on Wednesday at 12:15pm in Room 160. Attend the Lawyers Change the World lecture by Ambassador María Jesús Conde Zabala on Thursday at 12:15–1:15 p.m. in Room 160. On Friday hear from other UC Law students reporting back on their experiences abroad.

• Principles of International Law (Concise Hornbook)
  • Available via the West Academic Study Aid subscription, this fully-updated third edition provides a comprehensive survey of public international law, with useful references throughout to current events, classic and contemporary cases and scholarship. It is designed as a stand-alone text or as a complement to all the major casebooks on the topic. The first part of the book addresses how international law is created, interpreted and enforced; the second part focuses on the interface of international law and national law; and the final part covers key subject matter areas: human rights, injury to aliens, the law of the sea, international environmental law, international criminal law, and the use of force.

  • Available via the Aspen Learning Library subscription, this text begins with an introduction to the main principles and sources of international law and then covers specific areas of international law, covering a wide array of topics from human rights and extradition, to the law of the sea and the laws of war. From start to finish this text offers a succinct but comprehensive overview of public international law.
• Understanding International Law
  •  Available through the Lexis Nexis Digital Library study aid subscription, this text explains what international law is, why it exists, and the basic subjects it covers. The law of treaties is given particular attention. Understanding International Law also provides introductory coverage of topics of current relevance, such as terrorism, international criminal law, use and applicability of international law in United States courts, and the law governing the use of military force.

Max Planck Encyclopedia of International Law

This major online reference work contains 1,700+ peer-reviewed articles on every aspect of the substance of international law. Written by an incomparable team of over 900 scholars and practitioners led by Professor Anne Peters, this comprehensive resource is essential for anyone researching or teaching international law. It was founded in 2004 by Rüdiger Wolfrum, building on the prior encyclopedia published by Rudolf Bernhardt from 1981 to 2003.

HeinOnline Foreign and International Law Resources

This HeinOnline database contains in-depth publications of the American Society of International Law and prominent Yearbooks from around the world, including the Hague Permanent Court of International Justice series and much more.

Advanced Legal Research: Foreign, International & Comparative Law Guide

As the world grows more globally interconnected, International law becomes more important. This guide will give you a quick introduction to International, Foreign, and Transnational Law.

World Legal Information Institute (World LII)

The World Legal Information Institute is a non-profit organization designed to promote access to International legal resources.  It includes 1,834 databases from 123 jurisdictions as well as links to over 15,000 law-related web sites in every country in the world.
