The College of Law awards over $2.2 million dollars annually in scholarship and fellowship support. Scholarships are awarded to accepted applicants in order to attract and retain an academically talented and diverse student body. To be considered for scholarship consideration, an applicant is required to complete the Scholarship Application Form. This form is a part of the electronic admissions application provided through the Law School Admissions Council.
Every scholarship offered is renewable for each of the three years of law school as long as the recipient maintains at least a 2.0 grade point average. Beginning in early winter scholarship awards are made on a rolling basis, usually about three weeks after acceptance.
In addition to scholarships, renewable fellowships are offered to first year students by the Urban Morgan Institute for Human Rights and the Center for Corporate Law. The Glenn Weaver Institute for Law and Psychiatry offers fellowships to upper level students only. Detailed information on the fellowship application process for each of these fellowships can be found on their individual web sites.
Scholarship awards range from $2,000 to full tuition. For Fall 2008, over 70% of the first year class was awarded a scholarship with a median scholarship amount of $6,500. Ohio is an open border state where independent and self-sustaining non-resident students are able to reclassify as an Ohio resident beginning their second year of study. As a result, when possible, the College of Law structures scholarship awards to assist non-residents with the subsequent higher first year tuition bill.
