Beginning in the spring of each student's first year, the Staff conducts an initial meeting at which the student's professional plan is developed. Each year thereafter students meet with the Staff to update the plan based upon summer work experiences, class curriculum, and evolving professional goals. This purposeful approach is designed to lead to informed career choices consistent with each student's personal values and objectives.
In addition to annual meetings, the Staff meets with students on a daily basis and has an "open door" policy. Students also receive assistance with resumes and cover letters, in addition to mock interviews at the beginning of each interview season. The Staff conducts numerous programs throughout the year highlighting practice areas, job search techniques and self-assessment activities. Annually, the CPD also welcomes speakers who are noted experts in given fields of expertise.
The CPD also equips students with the tools necessary to succeed in a professional environment by managing the legal extern program and volunteer opportunities. Both of these programs provide skill-enhancing experiences that benefit students beyond the confines of the law school setting. Similarly, these programs encourage students to view public service as a professional responsibility.
