IngotScott Poley '94 Hit a Home Run with Minor League Baseball

Scott PoleyMost would be surprised to know that UC Law has a strong connection with Minor League Baseball. In fact, Scott Poley '94 plays a major role in all legal aspects of the franchise. A native of Michigan, Poley came to the UC College of Law after completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan. Although he was a communications major, Poley had taken some legal classes as an undergraduate student and found them very intriguing. This led him to law school. The College of Law appealed to Poley on many levels, but he was especially drawn to the school because of the small class size. "I liked that it wasn't a 'lawyer factory,'" he said. (Read more)

IngotLaw and Sports Make A Great Combination for D. Orlando Ledbetter '90

LedbetterSt. Louis native D. Orlando Ledbetter '90 is a lucky man. Throughout his career, he has been able to combine his two loves—journalism and the law—creating a uniquely successful career. After moving to Ohio at the age of 11 and matriculating through junior high and high school, Ledbetter attended Howard University in Washington, D.C. for college, majoring in journalism and minoring in political science. (Read more)

A graduate of The Ohio State University with a degree in business, he earned his JD from the College of Law in 1962. Law & LeadershipThe Law and Leadership Summer Institute (LLI), sponsored by the Ohio State Bar Association and others, is a rigorous, five-week program held at UC Law, designed to provide a basic understanding of the study and practice of law. Participants learn skills in leadership, writing and self-expression, test-taking, and studying that will be critical to their success as students and future professionals. Jim CrowleyCompetition with his cousins, coupled with stories of the exploits of a local attorney, were the keys to James Crowley's '74 decision to become an attorney. Born in New Britain, Connecticut, he completed his undergraduate studies at Boston College with what he calls an “unofficial” major in business and history before coming to Cincinnati for law school. Ingot U.S. News & World Report: UC's Caron Reveals Issues with Law School Ranking Procedure

U.S. News & World Report ran a story about law schools using publication of ranking criteria to try and "game" the U.S. News college rankings. News of the use of the tactic was revealed in TaxProf, the blog run by UC College of Law Associate Dean of Faculty Paul Caron, who is quoted in the story. (Read more)
