Human Rights: Promotion and Protection
Alumni from the Urban Morgan Institute will be coming from around the world to discuss their human rights work. Topics are wide-ranging including the situation in Darfur, environmental litigation in China, violence against women, children’s rights, corporate social responsibility, civil liberties litigation before the Supreme Court of Canada, the International Criminal Court, the Special Tribunal on Lebanon, asylum claims in US immigration courts, human trafficking and contemporary slavery, LGBT issues internationally, international human rights advocacy by US social justice groups as well as legal aid organizations, and indigenous rights.
The conference will be followed by a dinner featuring Professor Paul Lauren, Regents Professor of History at the University of Montana. Professor Lauren is the leading historian on international human rights.
