Michael Barrett Confirmed for US District Court

5/2/2006 - Michael Barrett, Class of '77, was confirmed on Monday, May 1, 2006, to serve on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. The Senate voted 90-0 to confirm his nomination to the federal bench. He was nominated by President Bush for this lifetime appointment.

In a joint statement after the vote, Ohio Senators George Voinovich and Mike DeWine said "Michael Barrett's Senate confirmation is great news for the Southern District of Ohio. His impressive career as a lawyer, his outstanding service as a community leader, and his diverse profession experience will serve him well on the bench. Michael is a good man, has a strong sense of the law, and will make an excellent judge."

Barrett, a native of Cincinnati, earned his B.A. and J.D. from the University of Cincinnati. From 1978-1984 he served as assistant prosecutor and chief assistant prosecutor in the Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office. He went to work as an associate with Graydon, Head & Richey from 1984-1995. Currently, he is an attorney with Barrett & Weber.

In addition to his legal work, Barrett serves his alma mater as a member of the College of Law Board of Visitors. Previously, he served as a member of the UC Board of Trustees, chairperson of the Hamilton County Republican Party, and a member of the Hamilton County Board of Elections.
