Sandra Sperino received her Master’s of Science in Journalism from the University of Illinois College of Journalism and her JD from the University of Illinois College of Law, where she was editor-in-chief of the University of Illinois Law Review. She is currently a visiting professor at UC College of Law, where she teaches Remedies, Employment Discrimination, and Property. Prior to coming to UC, Professor Sperino was a clerk for the Honorable Donald J. Stohr of the United States District Court, Eastern District of Missouri and an attorney for Lewis, Rice & Fingersh in St. Louis. While at Lewis, Rice & Fingersh, Professor Sperino was fortunate to be able to work on the case of United States v. Dr. Sell. In that case, the Supreme Court determined that there are limits to the government’s ability to medicate pre-trial detainees for the purpose of making them competent to stand trial.
After practice, Professor Sperino was a Lawless Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois College of Law. She has published articles in the Employment Rights and Employment Policy Journal, the University of Houston Law Review, Marquette Law Review, the University of Illinois Elder Law Journal and the University of Missouri Law Review. She is admitted to practice law for the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit and the states of Illinois and Missouri.
