The new Center for Race, Gender, and Social Justice officially launches this week at the inaugural luncheon on October 22. Tina Tchen, executive director of the White House Council on Women and Girls, will be the keynote speaker. The luncheon begins at noon at the Netherland Hilton. Registrations are still being taken. How Destiny Moore '11 Made a Career Out of the Army, Law, and Community Development
Destiny Moore ‘11 is proud to live in what she calls the greatest city in the world. Originally from Cincinnati, she returned here for law school and plans to remain here after graduation. “I love it here,” she says, “I wouldn’t go anywhere else.” Her love for the Queen City has spilled over into her career goals: she hopes to use her law degree to continue developing the city and making it even better and stronger. For the Love of Country: Meet Troy Benton '13
First year student Troy Benton has dedicated himself to service to others, and he plans to continue this path after law school by dedicating himself to service to his country. Benton attended Pacific Lutheran University (PLU) before serving in AmeriCorps for two years. Through that program, he impacted the lives of many students as an academic tutor and mentor; he also touched many in the community as a volunteer. “It was a life-changing experience,” said Benton, and it certainly impacted his plans for the future. UC Law Women Collecting Used Cell Phones in Honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
UC Law Women are collecting used cell phones in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The phones will be donated to Hopeline from Verizon. Hopeline collects old cell phones, batteries, and chargers in any condition from any provider. The phones are then refurbished and given to local domestic violence organizations and law enforcement agencies for use with domestic violence clients. Hopeline has distributed more than 90,000 phones to be used by victims of domestic violence. Anyone interesting in donating old phones can drop them off on the 3rd floor of the UC Law Library, or contact Katie McBride. |
College of Business Tax Conference Offers CLEs for Lawyers
Participate in the 43rd Annual UC Income Tax Conference for tax practitioners, attorneys, paralegals and more. Presented by the UC College of Business, this event will include an update on the latest tax laws as well as tax preparation guidance. Lawyers can receive 13 CLE credits. Held December 14-15, 2010 at the Duke Energy Center, conference speakers include industry leader Dr. Dale Kiefer, Professor Emeritus at the COB. (Read more) |
