Congratulations to Jessica Butler, senior admissions officer, named the 2010 recipient of the Nettie Birk/Dottie Sutton/Louise Erway Award. “I cannot think of another person in our workplace who brightens more individuals’ days than Jessica,” wrote one person when nominating her. “Always in a good mood, a friend to student, staff, and faculty alike, Jessica is the consummate admissions professional.” The award was formally announced at the Hooding Ceremony on May 8, 2010.
Butler joined the law school in the summer of 2007, after having worked on main campus for several years. In her role with the Admissions Department, she is often one of the first people at UC Law that many student applicants talk to and meet. She is well-known for handling her duties with kindness, grace, and great patience. In fact, one member of the Committee remembered hearing Jessica talking on the phone to a nervous applicant and answering the same question four times, each time in a slightly different way so as to not embarrass the prospective student. Highly organized, she disperses volumes of information to many inquiring applicants and admitted students with great ease.
When congratulated on the award, Butler told Associate Dean Nancy Oliver that she loves her work and the students, faculty, and staff with whom she works. This positive attitude comes through every day as she helps welcome new students into the law school community.
Well done Jessica!
