Mad Genius Alan Wheeler Named 2009 Birk/Sutton/Erway Award Winner

Affectionately referred to as the law school’s “mad genius” because of his office space in the building’s basement and recognized for his exceptional computer knowledge and skills, Alan Wheeler was named the 2009 Birk/Sutton/Erway Award recipient on May 7, 2009.  Wrote an individual when nominating him, “I am so thankful that UC’s IT Department is phenomenally talented and has the asset of such a helpful and friendly worker as Alan.”

Another commented, “From a professional standpoint, Alan is an exceptional IT staff member—resourceful, helpful, and highly knowledgeable about computers…It is clear that Alan does much more to help students of UC Law than his job description entails.”

Wheeler joined the law school as a computer support specialist in 2004, first as a student worker then as a full-time staff member in 2007.  Since that time his friendly attitude, candy, funny story, and calming perspective have endeared him to students, staff, and faculty. As one committee member noted, “Alan takes what can be an emotional situation and, through his technical competence and sunny disposition, steers it to a successful outcome.”

Congratulations Alan!
