The exploration of legal and psychiatric systems provides UC Law students, mental health providers, and others opportunity to examine the implications for criminals and the justice system.
Learning where Law and Science Intersect
How does the Human Genome Project affect the legal and healthcare professions? What is the
impact of Tarasoff on the law? Just where does law and modern science intersect and how
does this impact the practice of law?
Through the Glenn M. Weaver Institute of Law and Psychiatry, students with an interest in mental health law and psychiatry learn to apply their knowledge to the legal issues and challenges of today-whether criminal, civil, correction, or legislative. Through coursework and research, students learn the nuances of this challenging field. The Weaver Institute also offers lectures, conferences, and symposia concerning a current issue of the law. The well-known Speakers Series provides opportunities for faculty members, mental health practitioners, and the legal community to share ideas, research and writing on the issues they are facing.
Through Institute programs, projects, and activities, students become problem solvers-raising awareness about important mental health issues, while discovering the excitement of legal research
