College of Law Historical Overview

For 175 years, the College of Law has educated thousands of men and women who have gone on to serve the world as lawyers in public and private practice, members of the federal and state bench, human rights advocates, top legal scholars, presidents of corporations, heads of Fortune 500 legal divisions, government officials, U.S. Supreme Court Justices, and even as President of the United States. The law school has a long, distinguished history, marked by visits of Chief Justice William Howard Taft (dedication of Alphonso Taft Hall), Chief Justice Earl R. Warren (125th Anniversary), and Justice Sandra Day O’Connor (150th Anniversary).

On this website, you will have the opportunity to read and reflect on the words of these notable legal figures who have visited the law school. You can also discover more of the law school’s history, why there was a need for the school, and how it came into being. It is a fascinating story which, we hope, you’ll enjoy.
